Will you call?

A friend of mine went to the supermarket to buy baking stuff. A guy approached her and struck a conversation with her about baking and what are the best ingredients to use. It was a rather brief conversation. Thereafter, she went and paid for her stuff and left to go home.

Upon reaching her home, she found a peculiar scribbling on the packaging of the baking powder that she bought. Legibly written is a name of a guy, together with a telephone number. No points for guessing who the guy is.

My first reaction upon hearing the story was… “Gee, do guys actually expect girls to give you a call?”

Of course, my friend didn’t call him; she is married anyway. But what about all you girls out there? Assuming that he is a decent looking guy and appears “normal”, ill you actually drop him a call or a sms?

As for the guys; if you do get a girl leaving you her number; I guess there is one right thing to do right? But then again, beware of freaks!

What say you?

For a guy, why not? Guys has nothing to lose ma. But then again, must be smart in handling such girl. Who knows what she has in mind

Well, I must give credit to the guy for having slipped his number into the packaging without her realising.

On the other hand, I am a traditionalist at heart, and so my answer is, no I won't call. If he was interested, he should've be bolder and downright ask for my number, no? :)

Eeee... Nola. Won't call! What if he's some psychotic serial killer lurking around waiting to get next victim? Scary!

ok then something to share.

just the other day, I was outside of Ikea in CausewayBay Hong Kong. This cute gal come up to me asking for directions with a map.

I was not quite sure of the place, but with the map, I was confident I could find it. So I suggested I walk her to her destination.

We started talking and introduced each other. At the end, we found the shopping centre, which was just around the corner. She thanked me. I asked for her number, she said, its ok, no need.

How did I feel? Slightly dissapointed, (it was after all my first approach for phone number) but then, no biggie. At least I tried. I could go home and tell my buddies that was what I did, instead of saying i saw this cute gal walk by and I said nothing.

Too many of us go through life never taking that right action at that right moment. We fear what people will think of us or if people will stare at us.

How many times have we let the cute gal / guy pass us by and keep saying to ourselves, Damn it, I should have talked to her/him?

If you did not talk to her/him, your chances will definitely be zero. But if you did, the worse case scenario is Zero, you have everything to gain, nothing to lose.

There is a saying - What other think about you, is none of your business. That's very true.

So, props to the "baking soda" guy!

Ladies, keep and eye out for the

> 7-11 guy
> parking meter i'm short of 10 cents guy
> book store what are you reading guy
> cd shop do you know where is the bossa nova section guy
> starbucks what is the coffee of the day guy

Give us guys a break. We are all not psychos, just ballsy.

Once a girl struck up a conversation with me at a bookstore. This was when I was in my early 20s. Just talking about books I read, etc. she then gave me her number and asked me to call her.

I called her the very next day. (Young ah, desperate mah).

Turns out she's doing direct selling. She wanted me to join as her downline. :P :P

Imagine if Alexander Graham Bell did not invent a phone.Somehow, telephone invention helps to solve communication problems but also create some other problems too eh?

But i like johnson tee's comment. Woah...not bad!!!

Terra Shield said...

You know what, I think I might... I mean, look at it this way, you both had a decent conversation, and if you're single I don't see what's the problem. :)

Zuraida said...

hmmm...I'd rather he'd call. If he's really that normal and interesting, he would have had the guts to ask you for your number kan?

*wink wink*

_butt said...

I might I guess. maybe I'll send him a text message and see what happens? hahah

but then on a second thought, what if he turns out to be some psycho freak looking for his next victim? and he chooses his victim randomly, see who would respond to his number? now that's freaky!

Eileen said...

Is the guy cute? Maybe if he wrote a message who really catch my attention... That also if I am not married....

Huei said...

erm..if he was ron ng yes =P

won't it seem really "desperate" to call back?? =P

1. Baking Ingredients is a weird thing to meet a person over.
2. If it was someone I knew who wrote sth other than his phone number, I would think it's incredibly cute.
But an anonymous guy expecting me to call him by "secretly" writing his number?
Kinda cowardly =\

Zewt

If i were your friend, i won't call the guy even though i'm single because i think he's not sincere enough.

Plus, there's also the very real threat of the guy turning out to be a psycho even if he looks decent and "normal".

And as a guy, i won't do that kind of thing if i'm attracted to a girl, more so a stranger at the supermarket. Honestly, i don't have the courage lah, haha.

haha. some perverts think it might work.

... and if it never works, do you think they will do it? haha!

I'm wondering when the guy had the opportunity to write his name and number...

Kim said...

For a phone number, most probably not. I would prefer email. :P

Yup i give the guy props for being so smart (and sneaky) and writing his number down like that. For that alone i might sms him :p

he managed to scribble his number and name on the baking powder and she didnt even realized it? wow!

still, i won't call him. economy down now, cannot waste money on calling strangers....

kyliemc said...

i wont call the guy... but some of my friends will call simply because they are curious. i guess i'm risk averse..coz i wont dare to take risks knowing this kind of guy. who knows he wont be another serial killer at large?

neno said...

It happened once to my friend when we were commuting on the public bus. Both of us were sleeping. Just as we got to our place, and getting down, a guy suddenly shoved a bus ticket with his phone number scribbled on it and he told my friend - you are very pretty. That girl is actually quite flattered. But then, she didn't call him lah. Haha!

Don't say.. some people even call and e-mail and flirted with a balding middle eastern guy who is married... so... it depends on how desperate the person is.

PahNur said...

I'd be worried if a woman start scribbling her number on my flour package.....although I won't return the call even if it is a guy who wrote it...too many creepy characters crawling out there, not to mention the creepy diseases they carry around.....then again, I was born in the BC era...I still think that men should make the first move...
