Where are the Ps?

I wrote this to TheStar Citizen’s blog a few years ago and I feel it’s time to bring it to AZAIG…

Have you guys noticed that there are very few cars with “P” sticker around? On the average, I only see about 2 – 3 cars with “P” sticker on the road every time I drive.

I am not sure whether it is still the case now, but JPJ used to roll out hundreds and hundreds of new driving licenses every single day. Can anyone confirm whether the figure has dropped drastically since the “lesen kopi” fiasco (which I believe many Malaysians have forgotten) a few years ago?

If the number of new license being approved by JPJ still stands in the region of hundreds a day, then where have these new drivers gone to? We should be looking at hundreds of cars with “P” everyday. When the rule was first announced, there were plenty of them. Now, they seemed to have disappeared. I came up with the following possibilities:

Parents only allow their children who are infant drivers to drive around their housing estate; or
Most new drivers are able to be-friend experienced drivers and have been consistently being chauffeured driven; or
The vision of my eyes have severely deteriorated; or
Most new drivers decide to wait until their probationary period is over before hitting the road; or
New drivers now afraid to hit the road, afraid of rempits; or
JPJ have not been approving new licenses; or
P drivers have been driving around without “P” stickers and there have been absolutely no enforcement.

Take your pick.

P/S: I know I have not been replying comments, my apology. Will do so tomorrow.

Hey zewt, I haven't posted a comment for a long time now, but I've been following. :)

Given the economic situation now, I have reasons to believe that the P license people are not able to afford a car to drive, hence the lack of Ps around.

That's what happened to me when I first got my license. By the time I can afford my own car, I'm already off the P license. So now I'm driving around without one.

U serious? I spot at least 10 P drivers a day. The other day I went to a college in Subang and in the parking lot where tons of Myvis, Toyotas, Hondas with the P sticker.

maybe its because you are spending less time at places where the Ps are or at time when the Ps would be around compared to your younger days?

I think it depends on where you are trying to spot those cars. I see lotsa Ps around every day, mainly because there are many students here.

Plus, some people only drive when their 2-years probation are over.

I do see some Ps now and then, but most definitely less than last time. So either it's your eyesight or it's fate that you don't bump into Ps on the road. Haha!

I'm another one of those who can only afford a car of my own after I'm off the P.

But I have friends who are off the P but continued to put the P sticker on, in the hope that Takumi-wannabes driving around in their imagined Truenos will give them a break on the road :)

My house has two cars. A car for my mom only, and a "P" car.

You can guess it, a "P" car for the amateur and young drivers who wanted to take a ride around. That car is under my name and I'm already off the "P", but there's still my sister, my cousin, my brother who will turn 17 in 2 years time....

So logically we will have 4 "P" license holders (including me the ex la)....and 1 "P" car.

I bet that ratio applies to any of us Malaysians.

I think it's this... and in my case it was that I didn't have $$$ to buy a car until I started working, so by then my probationary period was over!

or there could be another possibility..ur driving hours r different from the Ps...most of them (T_T) will still be in college rite? instead of getting stuck in the peak hours..they have a choice to go to class early/late/or just skip it all together =P

damn i miss those moments

I actually see many 'P' drivers around.

Being a 'P' driver myself, I sometimes tend to look for people with it too.
