30 things we learned when we turn 30

I’ve learned that the day you stop growing (physically), is the day you start aging… scary eh?

I’ve learned that after you’ve dreamt of life after school, you will soon dream about going back to school.

I’ve learned that loving someone when you’re a student vs. loving someone when you’re working are 2 totally different experience.

I’ve learned that most people who left school believing they will marry their high-school-sweet-heart usually end up with a college-sweet-heart and then an office-sweet-heart.

I’ve learned that being a nice guy is the fastest way to lose a girl. And this is why there are so the-very- many people out there who say… “he is a nice guy but he just can't get a gf”. Be a jerk and girls will go after you.

I’ve learned that in a full platonic boy-girl friendship, the guy will still hump the girl if she walks out of a shower and drop the towel. The only way a guy can get out of it is to rush to the toilet immediately and perform a vigorous hand exercise. If the guy can remain calm, then the girl is really ugly.

I’ve learned that girls who say they are not money minded and are happy with their bf driving a proton are mostly (note the word mostly) those who have yet to be pursued by a hunk driving a 5-series. Or…errr… maybe they know a hunk driving a 5-series will not be pursuing her.
I’ve learned that people who always complain about work and always talking about wanting to resign will end up the last to leave amongst their peers… if they ever leave.

I’ve learned that in the corporate world, money is everything, the rest are all bullshit.

I’ve learned that those company loyalists are mostly those who can't find a job somewhere else. Only the competent people leave.

I’ve learned that it is indeed not easy to put your foot down and tell your boss that you need to go home on time but if you do it frequent enough, it will become your routine and your boss won’t even feel it.

I’ve learned that people always work hard to save enough money for their future but they don’t know realise that they may not be around in the future. We are not invincible and we will always learn the saying “we sacrifice health for wealth and then wealth for health” the hard way. We are just a stubborn bunch of retards.

I’ve learned that Malaysians who think Malaysia is a food heaven are those who have yet to visit Italy.
I’ve learned that you can always do better in your next relationship if you fail your current one but you will never ever be able to redeem yourself in your relationship with your parents. I… cannot… stress… this… enough!!

Last but not least, I’ve learned that my God is the only being in existence who can make me eat my words, do the things I swear I will never do and He is a humorous God (though sometimes freaky), else he wouldn’t have created me. But I know He loves me nonetheless.

For the other 15 things, check out
my twin’s entry

i learn that i can stop betting but i think i never have learned,

i learn that i can do better than many others but i learn that i have never learn either,

i learn that i can take care of myself but it seems that i learn them wrongly,

i learn that i can be a good person but i end up learning worse than what i was,

i learn that i can make the wrongs right but i learn nothing but righting my wrongs,

i learn to be good, i learn to be honest, i learn to respect, i learn to honor, i learn to be faithful, but it end up all learning but forgetting that i learn,

most important today, i learn that despite how busy i am, i still log in to zewt.blogspot.com...

When I was 30, I learned that another 10 years left for me to earn enough to retire at 40.

Time flies.

Ooo...kita sama2 cancerian eh?

My bday will be on the 1st week of july inshallah.

But on top of all that you have said above, i do know for sure that our metabolism rate is slowing down as we hit 30 if we stop exercising or doing less and less physical activities (well at least you can spare those few hours/minutes poking to get all sweaty n healthy doncha?) and more and more stuffing our faces from sunrise to before the sun rises again.

A toast for a better, happier and prosperous life!

Ah I will strongly disagree with you about the food part. I have been to Italy twice and I will still say that Malaysia is a food heaven.

Anonymous said...

Eee...not really into Italian!!! Once in a while for a change, and that's it!...30? Gee! That was so long ago I can hardly remember!!! Life's like a roller coaster; it goes up and down...and can be scary at times...and yet, a lot of fun! Live it! Enjoy it!

Happy birthday brah!

Welcome to the thirties. Whoever said that 30s is the new 20s lied. Try having sex 3 times a day without your penis turning purple. Never had that problem in my 20s. Next stop, the Smurf coloured pills...

"I’ve learned that Malaysians who think Malaysia is a food heaven are those who have yet to visit Italy."

you're so DAMN RIGHT!!!!! ok maybe i duno the italy part..but i'm damn sick of ppl saying msian food is so damn great! DAMN they must be born in a well or so oblivious to good food around, i mean..that meat in that picture compared to the most commonly known MAMAK in msia..FUCK mamak! gime those juicy meat! (damn that sounds obscene haaha)

"I’ve learned that those company loyalists are mostly those who can't find a job somewhere else. Only the competent people leave."

so damn right also! alot of ppl complain about their work n yet they don't take the initiative to look for a job n LEAVE! tiu! ok la i complain but not leaving..but that's cos i dun wana leave my project hanging..once it's complete..i'm outta here!

i learnt alot from here oso..so does that mean when i hit 30..i'm gonna learn more? =P

"I’ve learned that Malaysians who think Malaysia is a food heaven are those who have yet to visit Italy."

Perhaps there is a balance. I love Italy esp. Triento and Toscana where I spent most of my time with my friends there, and I am for Italy being a food haven, but so is Malaysia. Oh so is Malaysia...

In fact I've had the pleasure of dining with an Italian chef who has settled down in Malaysia for he feels we have the best of almost every world, culinary-wise.

Just my thoughts. :)

"I’ve learned that being a nice guy is the fastest to lose a girl. And this is why there are so very the super many people out there say… “he is a nice guy but he just can't get a gf”. Be a jerk and girls will go after you."

Jerks are only for flings not relationship.

"I’ve learned that in a full platonic boy-girl friendship, the guy will still hump the girl if she walks out of a shower and drop the towel. The only way a guy can get out of it is to rush to the toilet immediately to perform a vigorous hand exercise. If the guy can remain calm, then the girl is really ugly."

I believe that guys (at least some) would have some control on their dicks and some embarrassment on their side. A guy who remains calm and walks out is a respectable man.

"I’ve learned that girls who say they are not money minded and are happy with their bf driving a proton mostly (note the word mostly) those who have yet to be pursued by a hunk driving a 5-series. Or…errr… maybe they know a hunk driving a 5-series will not be pursuing her."

A relationship should never be based on cars.

"I’ve learned that people who always complain about work and always talking about wanting to resign will end up the last to leave amongst their peers… if they ever leave."

I agree with this.

Cheers

This is especially true among Chinese, as we don't like to talk about death.

Happy Belated Birthday dude. sorry for the late wish as i waas away. As usual, away! *ehem*

I'm going to be 30 next year. So far, i've learned a lot in my 20s and i believe life is more meaningful day by day. Appreciate that very much.

I learned that you can't force a person to love you when his heart is no longer there.

sooky said...

"I’ve learned that those company loyalists are mostly those who can't find a job somewhere else. Only the competent people leave."

Not sure if I can be called a company loyalist, I'm still attached to my first job after 5 years. I don't know if I can find a job elsewhere because I never bothered to try. I always joke and tell people that I will stick around and "lai sei ng jau" (die die also dun wanna go). I see myself as competent but I prefer to stay on due to many reasons. Work flexibility is one main reason, especially now that I have a child.

I've stayed long enough to see people come and go. Believe me, it's not only the competent people that leave. Sometimes, you'll be surprised that incompetent people leave too and often they managed to secure a job at good companies. When that happens, I'll be laughing and wondering what "good time" awaits their new employer lol! :P

I'm going 30 next year. From the look of your list, I have a lot of catching up to do! :)

ps: Btw, Happy Belated Birthday zewt! :)

first off, HAPPY BIRTHDAY ZEWT!! =D

secondly, i like what you said here:

"I’ve learned that people always work hard to save enough money for their future but they don’t know realise that they may not be around in the future."

i know money CAN make a person happy & stuff bcuz w/o it, it's pretty hard to live.. but that said, who's to say that the happiness from having a lot of wealth is permanent? =T

I haven't been to Italy, but I'm sure I'll nvr gonna hv Italian food all day long! I'm not gonna say Malaysia is the best, but most of all, food here is affordable. And, u get the best of both worlds (East and West that is). I prefer Thai food anytime. I just can't live without chillies and spicyness.

How come it is never the other way round???
Hmmmm...a man walks out of shower and drop the towel....?
Would the girl run away or stay for more?

very inspiring entry! yea, as u grow up u tend to see the "not-so-beautiful" side of life and learn from them, ya? everyday is a lesson for us.

Kimberley said...

happy birthday zewt! a few of them were quite amusing, and some of them i hear are true. i can't wait to see if they're all true. but, nice guys finish last? got meh, who likes jerks anyway. its probably not as simple as that. the nice guys without gfs i know have self esteem problems and all, and things like that make a woman run faster than.. well they'll run very fast lah =p

i have to disagree with the "be a jerk and girls will go after u" part. nice guys get good gfs; jerks get wat they deserve.

Now that you mentioned we work for our future and we may never live long enough to enjoy it.
Can we look at it from another angle, what do we live for?

Anonymous said...

any more? :) love reading your insights.

these days girls don't wait for a hunk who drive 5-series to pursue them.. they will pursue the 5-series themselves. :)

Anonymous said...

Happy belated birthday to you, zewt! :)

TH said...

Lol. Some of your commentors are so funny with the 5 series. I guess nowadays, we own the 5 series ourselves. Don't underestimate women ;)

Italy's food is no doubt delicious. What they lack is variety. You could digest only so much pizzas and pasta. You can eat something different everyday in Msia. So, nop, Italy is not for me.

What do I learn turning 23? If you're brave enough and let go, you'll live the life you want to. Surely, some people age 30-40-50 have yet to do that either :)

zewt said...

u-jean - well, when i was 20... i would disagree with those you disagreed on... perhaps when you reach 30, u may think otherwise.

myop101 - you're certainly different, you're definitely not a loyalist haha...

huei - yup... school... indeed the most memorable days of my life.

missironic - the reality of life... sad eh?

Kimberly Ho - hahaha... well, give yourself another 10 years and see how... by the way, your blog is now private eh?

zewt said...

Jun - hahahahaha... that's a new way of looking at it. but then again, jerks wouldnt really care.

sabrina - hope you had a good one too, adik-by-one-day.

william wang - certainly not work...

drumsticks - now... that is quite true... then they end up with no hunks :P

melbie - thanks melbie... :)

TH - yeah... the moment i let go of things... aging takes a step back :)... it's really damaging.

zewt said...

jermayne - hahahahaha.... would YOU run away for stay for it?

Jules - one doesnt need to do it to learn it... :)

Swee Ping - thank :)

lynnx01 - thanks... did you go to NOF?

erm - hahaha... life secret eh... i think if you show money, most problem can be settled immediately... no need big cert.

missironic said...

ya..quite sad..but yet, the life ball is still rolling..aihh~~

MissSHopaHolic said...

I always thought being stabbed at the back is purely sickening.. but being stabbed into ur heart is even worst..

Happy Birthday ....

missironic - keep it rolling as long as possible :)

MissSHopaHolic - now... that is a good one. just make sure we are not the one doing the stabbings.

Zewt : A little late, but a sincere one nonetheless - happy 30th! (Welcome to the club)

Also, "I’ve learned that Malaysians who think Malaysia is a food heaven are those who have yet to visit Italy." I think many people (who travels alot) told me food from Hong Kong is best. I wouldn't disagree.

zewt said...

tsu lin - yes, HK is a good place... but lacks variety... i think malaysia boasts variety... but when it comes to more detailed... i think the french and italian are quite up there.

Hey Zewt, i know this is very overdue. But i like this statement :

I’ve learned that in a full platonic boy-girl friendship, the guy will still hump the girl if she walks out of a shower and drop the towel. The only way a guy can get out of it is to rush to the toilet immediately and perform a vigorous hand exercise. If the guy can remain calm, then the girl is really ugly.

Kills of my monday blues ;)

zewt said...

Jermayne - hehe... which part? the vigorous hand exercise bit or the ugly bit :)

CharlemÂgne® said...

The vigorous hand exercise of course! ;)

Under that condition, it's quite hard for a SANE man to remain 'calm' unless he is 80 years old maybe.

zewt said...

jermayne - indeed... anyone man who denies it is not telling the truth. he has to do something, either to the girl or himself... :P

no wonder no more feeds from your blog to my reader... turned private?
