The reason evolution

“This is the place to be. We are going to make it big. There are plenty of opportunities. The rest are not as smart as us and will all end up working for us. We can all be big bosses.”

“Yeah, the businesses we built have been “taken over” directly or indirectly but we still have the brains and with hard work, we will be able to make it big again. No need to move away, this is the place to be.”

“I can't do business because I am not connected, but it’s still ok. I just need to study well, get a degree and you get a decent job. Get myself a proton and a small condo and I will still be able to put food on the table.”

Present…
“I like the food and my friends are all here.”

10 years down the road…
“I like the food.”

20 years down the road…
“I must like the food.”

I find it funny when malaysians compare a county to their own ..the general consensus is that ..everything in other countries is better..but eh ..OUR FOOD IS STILL BETTER...Can a whole nation be built on food? A democracy built on Nasi lemak? a congress at mamak? i dont think so.. Its just such a irrelevant thing to say...Our food is better..ni niao hia

my son : papa, whats this mehlaisiah place that you keep talking about?

Rashikaps said...

Hey.. Been there done that so I say - go to the other side of the fence for once if you must. You'll realize the grass isn't greener.. it is just different.

Each place has its pros and cons. While one will enable you to make big bucks and mostly satisfy your material needs, the other may give you everything but in moderation. You can then choose what you want.

I agree with Rashikaps. There will always be sacrifice wherever you go. Whatever you choose. Which route you decide. That is sadly, life.

But yes. I like the food.

LOL I love what Penang-kia added! LOL!

Nice one, zewt. :P Eh, is this supposed to be something serious or funny? Because I laughed! xD

More likely in 50 years time, we will move around in the latest fashionable dressed camels and eat naan equivalent of staple diet. Sand dunes would be popular since tropical rainforest is not common in Middle East.

Huei said...

what?? I've already pass 20 years down the road..HOW?! i must be really old...i need grass!!

me said...

seems like rashikaps has also done the greass thingy. must go interview him.

basically, you've convinced yourself that the other grass is the one you want and you just want more support before you make the chop. you won't rest easy until you try it. so, go. you're young. you can still afford to try the grass here and there before you make up your mind. who knows? if you don't like it, you can come back as one of those 'brain-drain' that the govt is trying so hard to lure back, and maybe then they'll give you better conditions.

yeah i love the food :P

You are right on! lol

Many overseas frens complain they missed their teh tarik, nasi lemak and bak kut teh....

If that is all they're missing, might as well earn a decent living over there and come back to eat all you want during holidays. lol

Good work, Zewt.. haha. Makes me think whether will i force myself to "like the food" in 20 years time..

It is in ur hand! It is in everyone hand! How u want it to be like in the future. Remenber 'What we r today is due to our pass but what we r tommorrow depend on what we do today'. Have a nice day!

I think adding to that..

30 years down the road...
"What the hell have i eaten"

There'll always be greener on the other side of the fence.. There's no end to this thing.. But I believe adaptation is the key.. All you need to do is to adapt to it..

Not here lah.. If you want to adapt well here.. One must go for 2 hours lunch on Friday and take break 5X a day.. Get what I mean?

whatever the years, guess is... at least the beer will still be cold & siew g will still be crispy.

Reminds me of the saying "Hujan emas di negeri orang, hujan batu di negeri sendiri, lebih baik di negeri sendiri". I wonder which bright person came up with that saying hahahaha

sharlydia said...

This is such an insult...

So before it gets too late that we have to tell ourselves "we must like the food", isnt it better to start looking out?

We can always come back as visitors and have all the good we miss here!

rashikaps - have to say things are quite different here compared to india. no offence... but there is only one race in india... here... complicated...

zewt said...

Michael Song - haha... yeah... all the boleh reasons.

twisted heel - i think we have to know what we are running away from before making a move... dont u think?

cindy - yup... laugh and think at the same time... :)

anon @ 8.02am - hahahahaha.... perhaps they will want sand dunes with a hope of striking oil.

Huei - not the type to smoke ok?

me - like what i told rashikaps... her nation is different from ours. they only have one race over there... we face very complicated and delicate situations. and... we must know what we are running away from before we make a move.

zewt said...

sharlydia - huh... insult?

elizebeth DL - you got strength to tiu the food or not?

totally ignorant! said...

Funny that being a hotelier abroad, the term "Malaysia food" to the embassies and most Malaysians mean Malay food. To you, what comes up in your mind when you say "Malaysia food"? What about "Malaysian music"? Does it include Chinese and Indian? Something to think about....

By the way, flaming pigeon, river in between and ghastly face(is that you?)... Nice banner, dude!

Purple~MushRooM said...

Let me correct what Elizebeth DL says:

30 years down the road... no tiu for the food liao.

Anonymous said...

New banner, zewt? Very fierce wor... running out of patience-ah, you? :D

My first Merdeka celebration out of Msia.. at the embassy. What do ppl go for? Food of course! It was all out when I got there. But that was expected. I didn't bother to go for food, just went out of... patriotism?? To see the Msian flag flying proudly in the sky?? When I got there, I am reminded why I left! :P

But not everything is gloom and doom. Being away has led me to some conclusions:

1. Yes, the food is good - selection and taste. But I can always come back to savour it. And not be affected by what-in-the-world-was-he-thinking-of-when-he-said-that policymakers..

2. I seriously believe the ordinary folks will not let the country fall to the dogs. Contrary to what the politicians may say, generally everyone knows what needs to be done and who can do it. In the current state of the world, most people understand the need for peace and stability.

Don't they?

Jun said...

yup. tht sums up what i think bout the present-- add "family" to that too.

i agree with penangkia and somewhat with ur response to the comment-- sure, maybe thr'll be food, but definitely no bkt or char siew ;p or hey, maybe by then, there'll be grass! *hoho*

CRIZ LAI said...

The grass might be greener over the fence but it also has its hiccups. I have seen many who misses all the wonderful things here...only the food in this context. Haha. I guessed if you are planning to be on the move, learn up the local recipes...errrr... and bring over lots of belacan. :P

Azlan Zed said...

what food ? hehe.

zewt said...

bensiu - now... isnt that a very interesting point to note... the ghastly face... cool eh... brilliant done...

purple mushroom - hahaha... then tiu what ah?

kat - dubai... looks like malaysians still act the same eh? heh heh... well, we understand the need for peace... that's why everyone is just being tolerance... extra tolerance.

Jun - there'll be... grass... and we may all have to eat them... literally.

CRIZ LAI - if that is possible... i might be able to do business there... haha!

alan zed - rendang? hehe...

Anucia said...

i really don't get comments like "But there got no mamak, no nasi lemak" and "Shops close at 5, man!"

Come on.

There's more to life than nasi lemak and bkt. If you really want it so badly, learn how to bloody make it yourself la. Geez.

And this stupid rotting at the malls on weekends culture really has to stop.

zewt said...

anucia - hi there... welcome. Well, it's just amazing how some ppl's lives are run by mamak store and roti canai isnt it?
