We should all stop

I think I am going to listen to what most of you said, going to let this Namewee off the hook, not going to talk about him anymore. Heck, I don’t even wanna have anything to do with him. After all, it’s not like he is some celebrity like Gwen Stefani who is in town. And of course, we’re already getting bored with the same ‘ol shit. We all like things hot, out of the oven… like the national tragedy a few weeks ago, or was it last week. No point talking about outdated stuff right? So yeah, won't talk about him anymore. By the way, what’s with the fuss about some Nuri crash?

Why talk about someone who acted beyond his means? He should have just shut up and live his life, then he wouldn’t have got himself in so much trouble. Yeah, our country is pretty screwed up here and there but who cares? I certainly don’t. Do you? I have a job, I got a car, I can still go shopping and life is all good, why complain? Yeah, petrol is expensive, toll everywhere but heck, you and I can afford to pay still right? Why go and stupidly do a rap about the things that you and I talk about at the mamak every week?

Speaking about things we talked about at the mamak, those are the things that somehow make our ‘teh tarik’ and ‘maggi goreng’ taste better. We talked about it, complain a bit, as soon as we flush the ‘the tarik’ down our throat, all our frustrations are also flushed down our guts. After all, we have been swallowing all these things for years. What’s the big deal right?

Okay, I know… maybe things have been getting out of hands lately. But heck… things have always been getting out of hands, it’s just a matter whether you know it or not. What you don’t know won't hurt you. Ignorance is bliss… if you’re not happy with things; don’t go around reading blogs written by ‘goblok’ fellas or cowards. Best remedy is to read comics mainstream newspaper… then you will know the big boss said he wants to be fair and will be fair… damn good news right? Precisely… just be happy and live our life… don’t go around doing some stupid act like this Namewee.

And most important of all, we certainly don’t want to be seen to be having some sort of connection with this Namewee fella. I mean… he is now the national villain, akin to the most wanted man in the country. What if they think we are Namewee’s associates, we’ll be screwed too! We might also get our citizenship revoked! After all, anything is possible in this country. Okay… right… maybe some of us don’t really bother about our citizenship cos we don’t give a damn about our voting rights but still… what if they ISA him and we get ISA-ed too! Shit!

There you go, so many reasons not to talk about this dude anymore. Besides, by the end of this month, he might be forgotten already. Unless of course there’s another screw up somewhere and the comics newspaper needs to divert our attention again.

So Namewee, you’re on your own… none of us is going to walk with you. Your effort is worth the laugh, and that’s as good as it gets. We are too comfortable with our life and too patriotic to get our hands dirty. You should have just shut the f*ck up and stomach all the shit we have been given… just like us… we’ve been doing it for years.

P/S: Have you voted at the new poll or not? That’s the least you can do la…

Patriotism has never been ethical. Do you know? It is one of the 'virtues' that the gomen has the law on their side. They can stuff it down our throats and yes, even send a rapper to jail for degrading a piece of coloured cloth. The charge: treason.

Our laws have never been about total freedom of speech. That privilege belongs to a superpower country. Our laws come second to blind devotion in the name of peace. And we aren't the only ones to feel caged. But yes, at least we're in a nicely decorated one.

go blog abt your ladder theory loh. 4 entries!! sheesh! you're making this guy sound like a hero or something. let's call this the namewee week. for his sake, too much publicity at this point is not good. the govt won't let him live it down even if he kowtows as long as the topic is still hot. the more popular he gets, the more he and his family will suffer.

really, that's all. Feeling bad. cannot do anything.

I hope this will be the last post you're mentioning about the guy, cause I'm pretty much sick of reading about him.

And you're right, things might be screwed, but at least we're still living comfortably, doing things that we want to do anytime we want.

The laws are here because it is necessary, to maintain a certain degree of harmony. Yes, ppl bitch about it, but that's about it, they only bitch about it. I don't think we would prefer them to form their own freedom fighters, and fight for freedom of speech, and start torching the mall or the car parked at the roadside.

No, I think if that's the price to pay so that we can go out at night and not being afraid of being torched or killed, so be it!

(I might still complain, but that's as patriotic as I get!)

zewt, i love you and all (no homo) but i tip my hat to the dude for what he has done.

i dunno if you guys listen to rap but if you do, you'll know who tupac or biggie is and if you're a fan of their work, you'll know what they did. a lot of their lyrics dealt with the oppression of the black people and how tough life is in the hood. they gave the black people a voice which united their cause and also shared the pain that the average black person faces in their everyday lives through their music. look at how many rappers and music lovers now pay tribute to tupac and biggie for what they've given.

sure they are gangsters and i don't condone what they did but i think they gave a lot of kids inspiration to make a difference and to highlight some of the big issues that don't hit the newspapers often enough in mainstream society.

discrimination is still there but they've come a long way from total segregation. some blockbuster movies and tv series even have black presidents. if you look at zoolander the movie, you'd think that they banned it because part of the plot was to assasinate the pm of malaysia. maybe that was it but could it be also that the pm of malaysia in that movie is chinese?

I'm not saying that tupac and biggie is credited for all these changes because nelson mandela or martin luther king would have to be up there, but they sure played a part in it.

i truly believe that if the mindset of a whole community changes and say, "we won't take this shit anymore", we can make a difference. i'm not just talking about the chinese community because a lot of the malay, indian and lain-lains are being pummeled in ass too. if they misappropriate taxpayers' money, it's OUR money not just a certain race's. we need a medium and the spirit to fight it but sadly after so many decades, we're still talking about race instead of forming a united front in voicing our dissatisfaction in how the government govern.

i'm sure that this namewee dude knew the consequences but i'd say he's got more balls than most ministers that are suppose to look after our rights. could it spawn another hundred wannabes? no doubt but do they have the balls to make a difference? i sure hope so.

i reckon the more coverage this guy gets, the better it is because if they prosecute him, it would be another drop of water that would eventually break the camel's back.

i absolutely agree. every country has their own weaknesses and negatives and regardless of where we are, we'll complain. our home is never cosy enough, our house is never big enough, the people living in the house is never understanding enough. i strongly believe that the 'culture' of hating ones country is wrong, but the sad fact is, if u don think that way, u're not normal. screw that culture i say.

In response to some of your comments folks...

Yeah, so what if there are wastages as a result of "sikap tak apa" right? Or that it is God's fault for the accidents that befallen on people who so happen to be riding a govt approved public bus? Or for that matter, people who sought justice in a court risking getting their heads damaged by falling ceilings? If you are lucky, it will only be water.

Ok, so the govt like bailouts (it seems that is all our Govt is doing these days). Big deal, we have so much right? And even if there are wastages, it is only Govt money right?

As long as I can drive my car (which is inflated by irrational taxes), a house to live in (which of course requires 30 years loan to repay back while other developed countries take at most 10-15 years), afford nice food and clothes (which is again take up most of our salary), we should just let things be.

What is justice if there is no food on the table (tell that to those who have to use highways to work when they have families to feed)? What is fairness when we have safety (tell that to people who get mugged, killed, gunned down, robbed and such done in broad daylight)?

I wonder too why the heck Zewt didn't realise this earlier and continuously harp on this Namewee person...

lol... another sarcastic post. yeah namewee is sooo big of a national hero already... and i just can't stop but smile at your posts as something what a mom will say to a child, stop making trouble and just get on with it.

"but mommy, i don't like being in here! this place sucks and stinks!"
"cmon, we've been living here for ages already, so what????? you can still eat sleep shit and whats wrong with that."
"well... everything!"
"i want you to stay out of trouble! just shut the hell up and complaining about those buggers who wakes me up 5am every morning!"

still, i salute namewee for his guts. flaminglambo mentioned that raps are originated by the blacks to express their dissatisfaction with the country's discrimination and racism. namewee is just using that again. not many can see though. :)

flaminglambo - i just love long comments! hey mate... you should know that i was trying to be sarcastic right? maybe it didnt work. what you said is all true... but the thing is... the states will tolerate the existence of tupac and biggie, but namewee will not be tolerated here. i am not saying that we should all condemn in, in fact, i am trying to ask ppl to think and at least remember him. but the sad thing is... a lot of ppl are fed up with him already... we all like new things to talk about.

good to have you talking again man.

namewee case is jz another example how easily we can over react to things (besides the blaming attitude). It's alwiz the knee jerk reactions. (same goes to the express bus tragedy).

I personally believe he has done something creative and he has spoken some truth in the MV....

judging by some of the other comments here, I am very amused that some people didnt pick up on the underlying note of sarcasm that this post was written in, some even agreeing that "ya, we should all ignore this and get on with out opressed but still OK lives".....

Anonymous said...

Or did i misread it and there was no sarcasm intended? sorry its 4am here...tired

~aSstHa~ said...

hmmm... i don really know wat's all the hype abt... i personally hv not listened to namewee's MV... jz listened and read comments on wat ppl who did have to say abt it.. so i don tink i can put a constructive comment to this... i'll comment properly once i hv... eheh.. (by then it'll prolly b stale)

but i more or less do know that... yes, news gets stale n old... n ppl don wanna hear abt it.. mostly i guess we're all jz to scared of the consequenses not so much on ourselves but even our families u know... so we prefer to err the scene even tho we know there's some truth to it...

doncha tink it's more or less the same scenario u were refering to in a certain post wer u said wen one person wants to stand up to the hated one and no one else wants to back it up? imagine that's only on the work front.. dude, this is nation... go figure...

i do sympathise with this namewee guy as he does hv guts to do wat he did but den again i'm sure he did it and knew wat the consequences were... if he didn't.. den he's prolly disillusional.. but i don't tink he didn't... so basically he had it coming... but do we... (all races) have to keep quiet n pretend it doesn't affect us? in the long run it will... it affects all of us irregards to our background... at the end of the day... we all wish for a better country to live in with no ill feeling for one another...

i was listening to the radio the other day n they had all this adverts abt our 50 year of freedom... but are we really? or all we all disillusioned n prefer to pull the wool over our eyes n pretend it doesn't affect us... it doesn't.. whether or not we realise it... i think i'm repeating myself... ok... bye bye... happy weekend...

twisted heel - i chilled and wrote a joke... some are offended though.

seaqueen - maybe today's news changed you a bit huh.

pikey - hey! truth indeed, and he spoke what we have in our hearts, which we have no guts to say. having said that, some choices of his words are quite offensive.

penang-kia - why worry about tomorrow? today has got enough worries... right brother?

friendfromtaiwan - my sentiments exactly... my sentiments exactly. you know me well my friend.

aSstHa - so this is your comment when u dunno anything about it eh? :P... yeah, good point on the standing up part against the hated one... that is so true... and that is exactly what is happening. am trying to get to that actually. freedom is not very well defined... i guess we do have freedom... limited nonetheless.
