Wednesday blues

Many of us have read stories about how we should not take those who are around us for granted. It’s a fact which we sometimes learnt it the hard way. But I think there is someone which we truly should not take for granted at all… that someone is… ourselves.

I never thought my right hand is so important until yesterday, when I woke up with what the doc said was a ‘tennis elbow’. No, I am not a tennis player and the injury was from badminton the day before. From the moment I wake up, my whole day was turned upside down… from brushing teeth to washing my face to eating and any action which requires my right hand. I felt like a handicapped.

That simple visit to the doctor yesterday led to some unwanted discovery in me which then led to a visit to the specialist clinic today. I had my maiden CT scan in my life today. It was quite a frightening experience… not the scanning process, but waiting for the results. The scan gave me all clear but I will have to return to the clinic this Friday to do another test.

I am sure many will agree that our bodies take the most beating sometimes. We abuse it, to the max really. If we do not learn to take care of ourselves and continue to take our health for granted, there will only be one loser at the end of it all… us.

I thank God that Jules have been very supportive and positive about things. I am glad she will walk with me all the way. Perhaps I am the one who is a little too negative. Whatever it is, the 2 days between now and Friday will be the longest 2 days of my life. Do pray for me.

I believe you'll be fine, Zewt.

Isn't it reassuring to have someone you love walk with you through the ups & downs of life? I wish both of you good health and many loving moments ahead of you.

If you need to take your mind off the waiting, maybe you can put up a post every half hour or so! ;-)

I hope it's nothing bad and serious! Will be praying for you, zewt! :-)

Hope it's not as serious as it sounds.

But it helps to have someone along the way.

And that my friend, is indeed a blessing.

I hope the test results will be clear and you will heal quickly. When something goes wrong with your body, it really is terrible -- I felt the same way when I had my 2-week-long sore throat. I never thought my throat was such a big deal until that happened. Couldn't enjoy eating anymore. No matter how good the food tasted, all I could think of was the agony of getting it down into my stomach!

Glad that you have Julia to walk with you through this difficult time. Praying for you guys.

Tennis Elbow...Badminton...Uh-oh. I'm betting you'll have more time to blog now!

But no worries ;) I know you'll heal pretty fine. Just don't try to play anytime soon! Take care! =)

My Rantings said...

How did a diagnosis of tennis elbow end up with a CT scan? Usually you just need an arm band before you actually go for any steroid jabs.

Anyways, stay off badminton for the time being. And take care. :)

no worries lah zewt.. you'll be fine.

we gals can't even hook our bra when we suffer that type of swell pain in our wrist.. worse if its the right wrist and we have to depend on one hand and its the left one pula..and that includes driving !!

think and act positive ..

oops..

to correct a word wrongly typed .. shld read as " swell pain FROM the wrist .. "

your symptoms and pain .. cld be just an aggravation from an old injury .. no worries lah..

Bro, take care. You're still young.

I abuse myself in my younger years and never thought about my health. Now I'm paying for it with a life of painkillers and medication.

All the best.

Zewt, don't be too worried. My cell and I are praying for you. I have constantly update them on your status. Will be cutting and pasting your blog in my email.

Just to share with you, I lived through nose cancer (early stage 2) when I was 18. It was an awakening experience (I believe every teenager have some point or other thought they can live forever) since I struggled with radiotherapy side effects (lost of hair, burnt skin, inability to eat) and my constant crying mom. I was constantly tired and needed rest yet I persisted in going to college everyday. People saw me and wondered whether I am diseased... hahaha...

I thank God though that in the midst of pain I called out to Him (unknown to me who He is then) and He responded. I thank God I found Him a year later. There were other signs and wonders that followed but I think that's another story.

To me, these are merely reminders that life is precious and we should not waste it. I know these probably are too distant to you but do hope you well get well.

i think yr worst enemy is probably yourself. like i said, don't worry too much over it. it's prob something inconsequential. but at least this episode has made you appreciate jules more. good for you.

Dear all - Thank you for your well wishes. One more day till the next test. No, the scan was not done on my arm but somewhere else. If it's my tennis elbow, I wouldnt be worried at all. For those who prayed, truly appreciate it.

Yea. I noe wat u mean. Last time I had really bad muscle pull on my right arm. It s really pain if I lift a little of my arm. So I got to brush my teeth with my left hand which is not an easy ting. And changing clothes is already hard plus buttoning is even harder! I really respect those people who are not born normally but yet can lead their lives normally. I myself feel like so 'cacat' already for juz few days...

u r rite..we shud appreciate ourselves and take gud care of our health... Hope u get well soon, zewt! =)

hey zewt,

I hope everything turns out fine for you. I can imagine how you feel right now.

Just July I had to take my very first ECG test when I experience severe pain in my chest when I breathe/shift position while laying down.

The doctors did the ECG with all dem wires wired to my upper body... Gave me muscle relaxant to help ease the pain. Thankfully after a day it went away and probably was just the accumulated stress from my friend's death.

Hope u get well soon and just to share a sms (which speaks for itself) I once got from a friend with u and ur readers...

Somebody once asked God, "What surprises you most abt mankind?"

God replied, "They lose their health to make money & then, lose their money to restore their health...

By thinking anxiously about the future, they forget the present...

Such that, they live neither for the present nor the future...

They live as if they will never die & they die as if they have never lived...

So love the present as it's the best gift everyone could have"

hey zewt, with regards to the query u left in my chatbox, i think it's more appropriate if i discuss it with u thru email. i wun be able to offer any professional advise becos

1)it's unethical for docs to do tht over the net
2)i'm still not qualified to do so
3)docs needs to get the relevant history fr the patient to get the full picture

however i'm happy to answer any queries u have thru email (away from the public eye), altho chances are by now, u wud have googled for ur answers (like most ppl nowadays do *sigh*), or u wud have gotten ur ans fr ur doc tmr before u read this.

hopefully all goes well tmr~ :) how can i contact u?

hmm , my right hand seems to be a little painful these days too. maybe it's Carpal tunnel syndrome ?

yes, i can relate to that feeling when you think about what would you do without your hand.

perhaps , its time i took care of it more often ...

Dear all you lovely people - Thank you so much for all your prayers. I am looking forward to a favourable result tomm. Hope I will be all cleared and all set to go again.

trust I know all about CT scan. With my current condition, the CT scan needs to be undergone every year..but I truly know how you must have appreciated your life when that machine is moving up and down of your body to capture all the images you need. For all I know, you may be trying to capture all the times when you should have taken care of your body better. Nevertheless, here's hoping for a speedy recovery for yourself..

p/s: You'll be doing the rock and roll in no time ;-)

All the best, zewt. What is important is that you have loved ones by your side. No matter how bad things may seem, it can always be worse and there are still lots to be thankful for. Don't worry yourself sick, okay? Will send over some positive thoughts to ya! :)
