Sigh

He was so impressive in the earlier games that they actually tested him to see if he was on performance enhancing drugs.

It was supposed to be "the" match of the tournament.

It was not even a fight.

At this level, it's a thrashing!!

Very disappointed... and that is an understatement.

Update:
For the record, how many of you guys put your money in the local bookie on him? I wonder if the same rumour will come out, like the one during his defeat to Sony during the world championship. Do you all remember what was the rumour? I wonder if it is true.

zewt, when the hopes and dreams of 26 living Malaysians rest on the shoulder of one man, and one man only...i think it's utterly unfair for us to be "let down" by him. If anything, us as Malaysians didn't seem to support him as much as we should.

PLease congratulate Lee CHong wei instead of crying your heart out because he lost. He lost because Lin Dan is good. not because he is not good. PLease give credits when it's due.

Kinda disappointed to see such response, even from you.

couldn't handle the stress. shouldn't blame him though, he's the only Malaysian who won any medal in Beijing Olympic so far. hope he can recover from this both physically and mentally so that he can make us proud in the future.

day-dreamer said...

He made mistakes he shouldn't and allowed Lin Dan to get many points as a result of that.

Disappointing indeed.

whoalse said...

Haih....couldn't even get to watch it but being informed of scoreline! That's even more disappointing for not seeing the atmosphere. Having said that, Lin Dan has the home crowd support which may have played into his game and mental strength.

Still, it's a commendable effort. Might have to blame it on you, zewt, for being one to have put so much pressure on and high expectation of Chong Wei!

LMAO

zewt..i must have...

a lil disappointed...is an understatement from me too.

Chong Wei did his best, and he was under tremendous pressure/tiredness.

We should congratulate Chong Wei at the very least for his efforts of actually reaching the finals. Although he lost to Lin Dan but remember that Malaysia has got a SILVER now!

more than that, malaysia has got it's FIRST MEDAL IN 12 FREAKING YEARS

Chong wei was dissapointed because Saifool bukhari earn more than him!

We should send chong wei to spend a night with Saifool bukhari!

I didn't bet. But my friend lost 300 to her mum. Too much hope.

Anonymous said...

The fact is that Chong Wei didn't play up to his usual standards, and Lin Dan was on form as well.

Zewt can claim that he was let down, because I feel the same way for the Final game itself. But overall, he still did us proud, a lot better than the overrated KKK-TBH partnership.

i am following the odds in bettings. the rating of us losing goes like this

start of the match, the first set, china give us 4.5 points. imagine that! 4.5!
and we still lose by 9.

come to the second set, the odds to buy china to win read as 0.14. That is every RM100 you buy, you win RM14 only, while if you buy on Malaysia, you lose 30. Looks like not a bad bet huh?

next 5 min, the odds change dramatically. China odds read as 0.08. and inside 10 minutes, bookie dare not take any odds anymore on china. malaysia is destine to get silver.

funny huh? but at a raise of hand, who would bet on malaysia? if you do, i suggest you to do charity rather.

Instead of looking at him losing the game to lindan, he had made us proud by giving us a silver medal :)Trust me, he is indeed under immense pressure which causes him to make silly mistakes. Lindan was playing homegrown and it certainly boost his ego and confidence :)

Overall, thumbs up for Chong Wei :) You did us proud :)

zewt, lee did his best and how can one moment we supported him, and the next when he is losing, we despise him and calling him names. Never call yourself a true supporter if only claim for victory. Huge dissapointment coming from the "supporter" instead.

well zewt,

i am with you. it is very disappointing. no doubt chong wei is under pressure but isn't he trained for this?

in some ways, i expect chong wei to lose but at least put up some fight la...

21-8 for second set? geez...

in fact, i kept telling my parents during the second set when lin dan was leading like 7-0, "ok, it is obvious chong wei is going to lose now, he should at least try to score up to 10 points... don't lose so badly..." i guess even that 2 points hurdle is not possible.

and the net play? gosh...what happened? where is that chong wei we all knew?

it is like he just let Lin Dan grab the candy from a baby.

myop101 said...

another thing...

he is getting RM300,000 reward for his silver feat and RM3,000 monthly pension starting next month. for a 26 year old, it is really not bad to settle for a silver.

damn, at least he should give a good fight... make lin dan run for his money...arrgghh....

Anonymous said...

I would congratulate him if he had put up a good fight...but he was so limp, so lifeless...and playing like an ordinary schoolboy! He is simply too weak mentally for top-class competitions. This is not the first time; it has happened before in other competitions. You would see him playing like a killing machine in the prelims...and like a wimp in the final, just there to be whitewashed by the opponent!!!...High time they look for some other potential players!!!

Silver is known for its pure qualities and is used to keep away evil spirits, werewolves and other evil beings for centuries. Hence, Lee CW is pretty safe from vampires for life. :p

Past games don't matter, Zewt. What mattered was THAT game. And in THAT game, Lin Dan was unbeatable. I don't think any other player could have beaten him. He was playing like a man-possessed and was covering the court so well. Even at

I won't say that Chong Wei didn't give a fight. He tried but Lin Dan was way too good.

Whilst we may be disappointed, I think Chong Wei would have been far more disappointed because whilst we move on, he would be left ruing what could have been.

But I kinda predict that LCW is going to lost but not that badly. From the record, LCW only performs well in home ground. I hope that the olympics final is a fair game and not because of gambling. Lets hope we will see gold medal in another 4 years time.

Well, zewt, I am as disappointed as you are that he didnt win the medal but i'm utterly surprised that such a negative statement will come from you. Lee Chong Wei succumbed under pressure as anyone could have just have a nervous breakdown given the herculean task he was in. It was very unfair of u to say that of him indeed. Perhaps you should give him a little word of praise instead, for reaching so far.

I think LCW was simply outclassed by a man, who is probably the best singles player one has seen in modern badminton era. If not for playing in the same era as Lin Dan, LCW wd obviously hv gone further not just in the Olympics, but many other major championships. However, he is still the most consistent and best singles player Malaysia has ever produced till date. The rest faltered even before you can even spell their name in full. Compared to our doubles pair, who shd hv seized the opporunity, as they obviously have the abilities and skills to, as there is not a single pair that is truly dominating at present in the doubles league. Still, I am proud of Chong Wei, as he still got us the medal that was at least expected of him.

Watching the match was painful and yes... disappointing. But Lindan was fairly strong and if you didn't notice, he's a lefty.
So, that guy had a better chance to win. In practice, he can fight the right handed people but for the ones who have been practicing on the right side would have some difficulty to attack a left handed person.

It is funny when people who can't even hold a badminton racquet critize Lee. It is funny when some people can't even walk up a flight of stairs without panting critize Lee. It is even funnier, some people don't even know anything about 'smash' or what shuttlecock is critize Lee. People forget that they who critized and they who state their dissapointment is not even anywhere near Lee, in any way. And, it is the mother of all irony that these people who has so much to say but nothing to contribute, come no where need the soil of any Olympic grounds dare open their gap to comment Lee. Why don't THEY go play badminton instead? Oh, such typical Malaysians... all talk and never any action...

hey shanice,

so i would presume since you have not run the country before you are not entitled to make an opinion on how it is run?

or that when your boss make you work overtime and he/she goes home early everyday while you slog your hearts out and you complain makes you suddenly "know everything" about how to be a boss eventhough you are not one?

Dear anon @ 3.29pm /12.47am,

Everyone is entitled to an opinion and even if I disagree with you till hell freezes over, I will defend your right to speak/comment.

But like what I wrote in reply to Shanice comments, it doesn't mean one must be in their shoes to know what it is like. all this mirror issue is nothing but a smokescreen covering a very bad game played. look, if i suck in what i am doing, even my subordinate is entitled to tell me off. yes it hurts but look, I sucked right? so?

this is what is needed to keep things real and keep things on track.

all this lovey dovey lets-give-him/her-a-break, he-is-not-on-home-soil talk is only good if you are 3-5 years old.

chong wei is not world no 2 for being a recluse playing in a safe, pressure-free, home loving crowd only environment.

so yes, I want to say it out loud I am disappointed and no, I don't need to be in China to prove my point.

Anonymous said...

Dear myp101,

Well, thank you for apparent nobility to defend my right to speak. For the record,I have never claimed I was oppressed by anyone. Neither have I said that you are not entitled to your opinion. I welcome a healthy debate. What I'm trying to say is that people should at least know bits and pieces of what's goign on before passing degraratory comments about others as if it was as easy as baking a cake. The issue here is to exercise a little bit of care in your spoken words before putting anyone else's efforts down so easily. And as a fellow reader of this blog, perhaps I am compelled to tell you tht it'll be fair if you take a 360 view before passing off adverse comments to others. And to Zewt, it's good to know you're still one of the responsible bloggers around. :)

Anon @ 3.29pm

myop101 said...

Dear anon @ 3.29pm,

There is no apparent or real nobility involved. The way Shanice put it is that everyone should shut up if they:

a) Not a badminton player, and
b) Not in that situation.

That is not only illogical but an attempt to tell everyone to just shut up.

I guess that should be directed to her rather than to you. But then again, you did say you agree with what she said to some undefined extent. Thanks for clearing it up.

Anonymous said...

Which is exactly why i said i agree with her to some extent. She cannot possibly put a clog into every one of those loudmouths, (i.e: those who pass off starkingly negative comments when they don't know much, except coffeeshop talk). Everyone will be very "professional" in passing judgements, especially when a turn of events is not in their favour; which is why i said that i agree with her that some should really reflect on themselves first before talking trash so easily. As an avid sportsfan, I understand her agitation towards people who talk as though they know just so much.

myop101 said...

dear anon @ 3.29pm,

The opposition retained Kelantan, won 4 other states and denied BN 2/3 majority thanks in part to coffeeshop talks and not forgetting "professional" judgmental passing loudmouths who love to put up much comments on blogs and not forgetting they are taxpayers too that wants an accountability on how monies are spent for events amongst other, the olympics and players.

Anonymous said...

true to a certain degree. but i dont see any positive outcome other than berating other ppl's effort in this case. besides, politics n sports, shouldn't mix.

myop101 said...

Dear anon @ 3.29pm,

Ah but the same BN politicans would argue that no positive outcome would come about if we berate their efforts as well. They are afterall sincere in their efforts.

Anyway, I wasn't mixing sports and politics. I was merely illustrating importance of coffee shop talks.

zewt said...

drumsticks - hahaha.. his smash has got power... due to his good timing but... it was just not him playing that day.

jacss - you expected him to lose already ah?

muop101 - though it is not very nice to blend sports and politics together, i am afraid the powers to be has in recent events clouded the 2, very sad indeed. and to know that he is willing to let himself be part of the thing, it's more disheartening. keep the debate going... no worries from me.

"the" anon of 3.29pm - hey, maybe that should be your nick hahaha.... anyway, i am also an avid sportsfan and yes, it is very very very disappointing when ppl who dont know about the sports passing remarks, particularly those which are not justified. but i have my reasons, and i have my information which unfortunately, cant be shared. that's life.... in malaysia.

In the game, Chong Wei was facing a world class left hander, much to his disadvantage. I mean, you don't get that kind of practice/training from that kind of left hander. Moreover, Lin Dan was in top form that night and we could expect the thrashing.
