A short one

Yeah, didn’t write anything yesterday as I decided to sleep before half past twelve. In addition, 2 days of consecutive badminton games plus only instant noodles for dinner means fatigue was the name of the game yesterday. Also, lack of sleep has cost me quite a number of hair, those that grow on top of my head, not anywhere else. So sleep is crucial. But heck, despite sleeping considerably earlier, I still woke up rather late.

Oh yeah… there will be a new event that will make it’s way into the Malaysian Book of Records in slightly more than 2 weeks time. It will be something that goes along the line of “biggest performance”. When it comes out in the news… then you can say you hear it first from A.Z.A.I.G
. !

Last but not least, Malaysia beat Thailand 3-2 in the Sudirman Cup.

Update: Zewt going to inspect his condo soon. Anyone here care to give some tips?

Funny i was asked the same question yesterday about whether i'll stick to msian ground or jetsetting across the continents for the betterment of life....woteva will be, i wont exchange my msian passport for anything else. It's for eternal keepsake till i die.

Anyways, even a local newspaper columnist is not as prolific as u when it comes to presenting entries at a frequent rate per week and still manage to retain our enthusiasm level as readers.

  13. Heh, I'd advise to check what times & days the management office is open. You'd be surprised how much stuff you have to deal through them and they may not be conveniently open for business when we need them the most.

Have you renovated/installed stuff already? If not, again may have to check with management when you are able to do these things. Some condos/apartments have strict hours for moving/renovation so as not to disturb the residents' peace & serenity.

Uhm, that's all I can think of right now. Hope it's useful...

  14. Hope you get a good unit, not a problem one. You know how it goes, the rule of probability. There's one bad one in every 10, or 7, or 5, or 3, depending on who the developer is i.e whether he the ISO type or the typical IDC type.

    IDC - I Don't Care.

  15. What record is going into M'sian Book of Records? Still no idea even though I heard it here first...

Only instant noodles for dinner? Not good for health and hair leh...

  16. biggest performance? Emmm....I should patiently await your upcoming post about it then?

  17. Checking... make sure your upstairs neighbour on their water so that you can trace leakage! seriously... so don't submit your forms so early.

btw, reading A.Z.A.I.G. ! added more words to 'Melly's Dictionary' I can't help but to get more new terms from your posts. and you asked why my blog is so white kan? go read!

  18. At least you can still tahan a full set of badminton. :-)

Any chance you can take a few snaps of the condo?

    ReplyDelete
  19. For me i'll check the wiring works for and the toilet for pumbling first. No light and cannot flush is the worst that could hit you.

Or if your house is recently build and no OC yet, nothing done yet.. tap for hollow space between the walls. Might be perfect place to start a termite breeding place. Get it cement up/fixed as fast as posible.

  24. Two days of instant noodles is not good mah! 'Ta-pau' something before you go home lah. Maybe too tired, huh? You forget about food after your game. Then go home and find out your are hungry... next thing reach for the easiest thing in the cabinet. Poor thing.

OK, I am a little lost.. what is going to make its way to the Msian Book of Records? Or do I have to wait for A.Z.A.I.G.'s report. :)

Condo: First, find out whether the developer had any mishaps in his previous projects. If none, one hurdle over.
Secondly, like Bergen said, find out if developer is ISO or IDC.

Oh yes, during inspection, check to see if there are any cracks - even hairline. If near water pipes, see if the wall is damp or the paint work has any tiny bubbles. Bring a magnifying lens with you. If anyone say you are crazy for doing that. Tell them you will be crazier to buy a condo that will need repairs in a few months. hehe

  25. Condo inspection tips...

    1. Check the doors for any bad finish (like paint job, cracks, unevenness)
    2. Check the walls for similar defects
    3. Check every single tile on your floor with a wooden stick to see if there are hollow sounds indicating hollowness under that tile
    4. Check that the toilet flushes properly (do a big dump to test the flushing if you dare)
    5. Turn on all the water taps and make sure there are no leaks under the sinks or around the everywhere the water is supposed to flow through
    6. If you have plastered ceiling, check that there are no water patches that may signal a leak in the toilet of your upstairs neighbour or worse
    7. Check all the windows to make sure they open and shut properly
    8. Check that the electrical points are properly installed (not wires jutting out precariously and all that)
    9. Turn off all the water taps and check the water meter outside your unit (make sure it's not moving when its not supposed to. Otherwise, you're dealing with a leak somewhere)
    10. Check the height of your window to your floor before investing in any curtains.

Ok, I think that's it for first round inspection.

  28. zewt....

i just wanted to share with you this story re condos... for just in case.

    short story..really!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Condom, check for leaks. Oops..condo, same also..check for leaks. Check the celling especially the toilet. Look out for discolored paint near the piping area. That is a sign of leaking from the floor above. Better if the occupants above already started using the toilet

  30. And we also lost 2-3 to England. I wonder if we can manage a 1-4 against China tomorrow =S

  31. fatboyslim - rockafeller skank. I dedicate this song for you zewt, sempena you visit your condo :D check for the normal one that always happened in Bolehland. Leaks.. leaks.. and leaks..

sam - i think we are definitely out. i am now just looking forward to the world championship.

    bongkersz - geee... thanks! haha!

  33. bring along a digital camera. that way, if you note any physical defects, you can snap a photo and submit as part of your documentation on what the developer needs to repair. Also helps to keep track of the faults you see.

check for cracked tiles and hairline cracks in the wall/ ceiling.

turn on taps and let water run - observe if pipes leak. Flush toilets at least twice (once when you enter the condo and once before you leave) - this ensures that your toilet tank is at least filling up as it should!

also check that you're given all the keys to your doors. open and close doors and windows - some lousy developers actually make frames which don't fit properly! or give you sliding doors/ windows which are jammed!

count the number of power/ aircondition points and check that you haven't been shortchanged. If you want to go one step further, bring a night light to check that the power points are working.

  34. Did you play badminton with a judge?

    ReplyDelete
  35. Second round: Go immediately after a heavy storm. Check the walls to see if there are any wet patches. That'd be signs of some leakage either on the walls or at the windows.

    ReplyDelete
  36. i think cirnelle covered a big chunk of what to inspect, just some pointers frm me..

check your fusebox (usually it's located with other tenants fusebox, centralise). mine was tampered with and some things was missing

let the water run in your bathroom (flood it if you can ;p). if your neighbour (1 floor down) complains, then it has cracks.

mop your floors thoroughly to check for hairline cracks

for convenience (and for future checks), use a paper/packaging tapes to "mark" at the places that has defects

    ReplyDelete
  37. look for structural defects lah.. that's more important. hairline cracks is nothing lah. it's just because of the weather, expansion and contraction caused the hairline cracks.. more of plaster crack no need worry. just inform them to plaster back make it look good lor :)

    ReplyDelete
  38. mh - right, i shal add those to things i should check per cirnelle.

kata tak nak - dont have that privilege, cikgu.

cirnelle - provided i can leave my house after a storm. ya know... things are only at phase 1.

sc - means i must bring a mop? yeah, someone told me about using masking tape... photo was also recommended.

bongkersz - structural defect? wow... sounds like the damn thing might just collapse!
